New Jersey punkers Night Birds are announcing details on their new mini-album, Roll Credits, today here at Decibel. We’ve also got a new song, “My Dad Is the BTK,” to premiere below.
“You know when you’re a kid, and you have this wild imagination, and your dad is kind of a psycho and coincidentally travels a lot ‘for work,’ and you think about it and determine he’s actually this serial killer you’ve been hearing about on the news, and the guy busted in 2005 was just the guy that your old man pinned it on, and then you rat him out to the FBI because you’re a bit of a little shit?” explains vocalist Brian Gorsegner. “That’s this song.”
The eight-song, 18-minute mini-album features the return of original guitarist Mike Hunchback, who shreds hard, fast, and unhinged over the band’s frantic take on fast hardcore, ragged punk, and classic surf-rock melodies.
Roll Credits is also noteworthy for its packaging, which includes “cover art” for every song on the album, each drawn by a different artist. The artists are Chris Shary, Marissa Paternoster, Perry Shall, Michael Saunders, Alex Hagen, Keith Marlowe, Paul D’Elia, and Nathan Gattis.
As an extra bonus, the song “Onward to Obscurity” features guest vocals from Poison Idea vocalist Jerry A.
Roll Credits finds the band celebrating their ten-year anniversary. Fat Wreck Chords will release the mini-album as a 12” EP and a limited 7” box set on September 21. You can pre-order the record here, and in the meantime, check out “My Dad Is the BTK” below.
